A poetic essay documentary about the undercurrents of history playing out in the present: a 'song' for the dark times about repression and resistance.

Made from reimagined/recycled images and sounds from the filmmaker's archive and other found materials, Undercurrents is a meditation on the global rise of the far-right, war and the nuclear threat. It explores links between patriarchal power, the environmental crisis, racism and colonisation and pays tribute to the life affirming power of resistance.

"Powerful, lyrical, and evocative. A poignant visual meditation on what is wrong and unjust in the world."
- Larissa Behrendt, Indigenous Filmmaker & Broadcaster

"Undercurrents is a dazzling montage of the intensely personal and the urgently political – a lightning bolt of hope for our bleak times. Margot Nash, using the rich language of cinema, illuminates the collective psyche and soul."
- Adrian Martin, film critic, author of Mysteries of Cinema
