Director Cate Shortland remembers Electric Shadows
12 September 2012
Cris Kennedy, a former Ronin staff member and now a contributor to the Canberra Times (among many other things), has reported on an interview he conducted with film director Cate Shortland, as follows:
'In answer to a question about what she remembers about a childhood in Canberra that might have turned her into an internationally famous filmmaker, Cate Shortland said:
'"To answer your question, I think Electric Shadows had the most profound effect on me," she says.
'"My sister Anne would take me to these Andy Warhol films, Fassbinder films," she says, adding "I was from this red brick house in Duffy but I got to be a part of this other world, this fantasy world, and it was incredibly liberating."'
Cate Shortland was being interviewed in conjunction with the national release on 20 September 2012 of her new film, LORE.
It's nice to hear our old cinema being remembered in such a positive way.
