CHILDREN OF TIBET
CHILDREN OF TIBET follows the journey of three young Tibetan refugees who escape by foot across the Tibetan terrain and over the Himalayas in winter. Told in their own words, it is a story of courage and hope, set against the backdrop of the Himalayan Mountains. The journey takes them along a dangerous route - leaving their families behind, they are placed in the care of guides who are entrusted to take them across the mountains.
Hundreds of Tibetan children every year risk their lives escaping across the Himalayas in search of an education in India. The Tibetan Government has established schools for young refugees throughout India to provide them with a chance to learn about their own culture and religion and to be educated in their own language.
Upon arriving in India not everything is as easy as they thought it might be. Not all the children fit into the carefully organised schooling system. The film follows the lives of the children as they leave the refugee centre in Dharamsala and embark upon their search for education.
In looking at the journey through the eyes of the children, CHILDREN OF TIBET attempts to bring a human face to the struggle of Tibetan refugees and explore the consequences that the journey has upon their lives.
