Carla Thackrah
Carla is an award-winning sound and video artist, screen composer and musician. She has a background across a large part of the arts as a performer, composer, visual artist and filmmaker.
Her early career was as a professional flautist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, based at the Sydney Opera House.
She runs her own sound and video art production company - See Tea Productions - that specialises in the making of arts documentaries, sound and video art and creating music and sound for film.
The Art of Sound, for string quartet and narration was made for ABC Radio National. The multi award-winning documentary, Sex, Drugs & String Quartets was broadcast on ABC TV and NZ TV, shown at
Brisbane International Film Festival, Commonwealth Film Festival UK, Sarasota International Film Festival USA, and won major awards for both the music and cinematography. One Tango Moment, filmed in
Argentina, was debuted at the Chauvel Cinema and has over 155,000 views on YouTube.
Earlier films
have won awards at WOW, Byron Bay Film Festival and Gold Coast Experimental Film Festival.
She has also written scores for several short films and one major series, Frocks Off for SBS TV, which was nominated for an Australian Guild of Screen Composers award.
Carla has studied at University of Sydney, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Chelsea School of Art and Guildhall School of Music in London. She has a Masters degree in music and film from the Queensland University of Technology and a Doctorate in Media and Communication from University of Technology Sydney.
