TWO HOMELANDS is both a commemoration of war and a celebration of community.

Fifty years after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, six Australian Greek Cypriots Elders (including the filmmaker's own father) give emotional eyewitness accounts of their beloved island and their migration to Australia: universal stories, reflecting on the cost of war and the resilience of the human spirit.

Sombre recollections are interspersed with funny anecdotes – creating a blend of both grief for Cyprus and hope for the future. And, as migrants, they speak of being torn between their two homelands.

In this outstanding documentary, these personal stories are woven together with rarely seen archival images to bring to life "the Cyprus problem", a conflict that is too often forgotten by non-Cypriots.

Although the filmmaker, Kay Pavlou, was born in Australia, both of her parents came from Cyprus, from a village that was occupied during the Turkish invasion of 1974. Most of her Greek Cypriot family became refugees. Her grandparents and uncle refused to leave their homes behind: they lost all of their land and lived under severe occupation confinement until they passed away.
