Javier Castro

Experienced Film Producer with a demonstrated history of working in the audiovisual industry. Skilled in Feature Film Production, Acquisitions, Documentary Production and Directing, with a background in Media Distribution.

After working as a photo reporter while at university, moved into distribution, working in acquisitions and marketing for an art film distributor before launching his own company, with which he built a catalogue of classic and festival films, by directors like Vidor, Huston, Kurosawa, Billy Wilder, Rosselini, Fassbinder, Sayles, Verhoeven, Thome, Monicelli, Visconti, Murnau etc. released theatrically and in all media.

The company had exclusive rights for Spain of the films produced by Virgin Vision, and provided theatrical distribution services to Sogecable, the production arm of Spanish multimedia conglom PRISA (owner of the daily El Pais).

In 1995 produced his first feature film TAXI, combining the talents of master director Carlos Saura and three times Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro with the script of a young writer, Santiago Tabernero. The film was pre-acquired by TF1, won a special mention in the San Sebastian Film festival, was released by Sony/Columbia, selected by 54 international festivals, (Toronto, Londres, Chicago...), sold to 32 territories, selected by the Japanese critique as one of the ten best of the year, and on the first telecast, managed a 26,8% share. He has produced and co-produced several feature films since then.

He has also written, directed and produced several documentaries and served as member of the technical advisory comittee of the Cinema Institute of Spain's Ministry of Culture.
