Melbourne's Women's Circus, originally established in 1991 as a vehicle for survivors of sexual assault, today thrives on the collective talents of an even broader range of women. Capturing the energy and warm generosity of spirit in this special community of performers, LEAPING OFF THE EDGE offers viewers an insight into a performing arts company that devises unique works of art - works that both entertain and move audiences, and re-empower the individual performers.

LEAPING OFF THE EDGE follows the Head of Training at the Women's Circus, ANDREA OUSLEY, herself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, as she leads the performers through their preparations for the annual show. This is an exhilarating time of year for the Circus community, when everyone comes together with a great sense of pride and anticipation. Fifty physical performers and musicians, as well as technicians and front of house crew all harness the stimulating and lively range of interests and passions that the women bring to creating the show. The film concludes with the spectacular performance, celebrating the resilience and creativity of this unique community.
