Inka Stafrace

INKA STAFRACE was born in Malta and migrated to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 12 in 1979 with her family. She became involved in the performing arts and political activism immediately after leaving high school. Her interest in film is an extension of her passion for bringing attention to politically unjust issues.

In the 90's she completed an Associate Diploma at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Audio Visual Engineering and pursued a career as an audio technician in the live entertainment industry whilst 'playing' around with a kaleidoscope of cameras.
In 1998 she moved to New York where she began her film making endeavors and completed 4 short films in 4 years, supporting herself by working as a lighting and sound technician Off Broadway. On return to Australia, she worked in theatre as a Lighting Designer and in The National Institute of Dramatic Art in a variety of roles. HOPE IN A SLING SHOT is her first feature documentary and was inspired by the latest of wave of racism to hit Australia, against Muslims and Arabs in general.

Inka is now based in Sydney where she works as a full time filmmaker.
